Install on macOS
On a Mac, the agent works on the Mac's own screen, shared by every conversation, while a user is logged in.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 13 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
- A user who stays logged in. mobd runs as that user, like any app.
- At least one agent installed and set up (account or API key) as that user: Codex, Claude Code or Pi (how).
Install
In Terminal, as your normal user (no sudo):
$ curl -fsSL https://dl.mymob.dev/mobd/install.sh | sh The installer checks the SHA-256 and the Apple developer signature and puts only mobd in ~/.local/bin. Add that to your PATH and check:
echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.zshrc export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH" mobd --version
A specific version, another directory, or a manual install
curl -fsSLO https://dl.mymob.dev/mobd/install.sh sh install.sh --version X.Y.Z sh install.sh --install-dir /absolute/path
Or download the archive from the download page, check it against SHA256SUMS, unpack it and put mobd in a directory on your PATH.
Next, create the configuration: mobd init, then Configure agents. Come back here to start mobd.
Permissions
mobd asks for missing permissions the first time it starts. You can also grant them in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Screen & System Audio Recording | Screenshots and the live view |
| Accessibility | The agent's clicks and typing, and controlling the Mac from your device |
mobd captures the screen itself; Screen Sharing does not need to be on. After granting a permission, run mobd restart.
Start mobd
mobd start # run in the background mobd status # address and readiness checks mobd stop && mobd start --login # optional: also start at login
Every check in mobd status should pass. mobd logs follows the log. Then pair a device.
Keep it awake
While the Mac sleeps, devices can't connect and turns pause. Stop it from sleeping on its own (System Settings → Energy, or Battery on a laptop). The display itself may sleep: the live view wakes it.
Upgrade
Let running turns finish, then:
mobd stop # the installer refuses while mobd runs curl -fsSL https://dl.mymob.dev/mobd/install.sh | sh mobd start --login # or mobd start, if it should not start at login
mobd stop also turns off starting at login, so start it the way you want it again. Settings and conversations are kept.
Uninstall
mobd uninstall # stops mobd and removes its service rm ~/.local/bin/mobd
Settings stay in ~/.mobd and conversations in ~/Library/Application Support/mob; delete them if you no longer need them.
