Pair devices
Each device pairs once with each office computer. It keeps its own credential in the system's secure storage and reconnects on its own afterwards.
Create an invitation
On the office computer:
mobd link
It prints a QR code and a link, valid for 10 minutes and for one use, with the address it used:
- the remote address, once
mobd remote setuphas set one up; - otherwise the office network address:
http://<name>.local:8080on a Mac, the computer's network IP on Linux.
mobd link --lan always uses the network address; mobd link --url ADDRESS uses exactly the one you give. Run mobd link again if it expires; mobd link --close cancels unused invitations. While no invitation is open, mobd refuses every pairing attempt.
Add the machine in Mob
- Open Settings → Machines → Add machine.
- On a phone, scan the QR code; on any device, you can paste the whole link instead.
- Check the address, give the machine a name and pair.
- Start a conversation and try something simple, such as “Look at the screen and tell me what you see.”
An http:// address is not encrypted: Mob warns about it. Use it only on a network you trust, or set up remote access over HTTPS.
Several addresses
A computer can be reached at more than one address, such as the office network at your desk and Tailscale elsewhere. Pair once per address: the second code for the same computer adds its address to the same machine, with the same conversations, and you choose which route Mob uses. See At the office and away.
Paired devices
mobd clients list # paired devices mobd clients revoke CLIENT_ID # revoke one and disconnect it now mobd auth reset --yes # revoke every device and invitation
A revoked device shows Needs pairing in Mob; pair it again with a new mobd link. Conversations stay on the office computer either way.
